Yancheng China Sea-salt Museum
Yancheng China Sea-salt Museum, approved and entitled by the State Council on January 23rd 2006, was the only large-scale specialty museum which presents Chinese sea-salt history and civilization. It is located in the urban area of Yancheng City between the ever famous man-made salt delivery river "Chuanchang River" and the well-known sea wall "Fangong Dike" in Song Dynasty, which occupies a floor space of 60,000m2 with its body building of 18,000m2. The body building structure is very special with several salt-crystal shaped objects, which seems as shinning and beautiful salt crystals scattered aside the Chuanchang river. China Sea-salt Museum was completed and thrown open to the public on November 18th 2008. On May 28th 2019, “Hai Yan Hua Zhang” (The Magnificent Chapter of Sea-salt), as the permanent exhibition of China Sea-salt Museum, was officially reopened to the public after the overall upgrading, which consists of four parts: Part One “From Sea to Salt”, Part Two “Transportation and Marketing of Salt”, Part Three “Development of Salt Law System”, Part Four “Sea Salt & Yancheng City”. Along with the permanent display there are a temporary exhibition and two specialty exhibitions: “Odes to Sea-salt Culture” and “World View on Salt Industry”, which present sea-salt culture and general introduction of world salt industry. The purpose is to collect, protect and research historical materials of sea-salt culture and to demonstrate Chinese sea-salt civilization in all dimensions and multiple angles.
Yancheng Museum
Yancheng Museum is a comprehensive museum, which studies and reflects the development of Yancheng local history. It was founded in 1961, and moved to No. 267, South Jiefang Road in 2016. The basic display, taking an area of about 1500m2, consists of four parts: Part One “The Vicissitudes of Eastern Huai Area” which presents the gigantic changes in Yancheng’s physical geography through tens of thousands of years,; Part Two “The Place of Sunrise” which presents the historical development of Yancheng from the rise of Huai civilization to the integration into central China civilization based on the unearthed cultural relics ranging from the late Neolithic age to Shang and Zhou dynasties; Part Three “The Ups and Downs of Yancheng” which chronologically displays the historical evolution of Yancheng’s politics, economy and culture in more than 2000 years; Part Four “Traditional Charm of Jianghuai Area” which, on the basis of different sets of cultural relics, reveals the working and living situation of the local people and the traditional charm of Jianghuai Area with rich local features.
Water Margin Museum
Yancheng Water Margin Museum, taking an area over 3000m2, was officially open to the public in February 2016. The permanent exhibition themed as “One Book, Three Men and One City” consists of four parts, namely “Looking up to ‘Water Margin’”, “Literary Giant—Shi Naian”, “Song Jiang’s Prototype—Zhang Shicheng” and “Shi Naian’s Disciple—Luo Guanzhong”. By means of researching on the book’s writing background, social influence, important events and characters, the museum manifests how Shi Naian accomplished the magnificent work by great efforts for many years in his own small thatched house located in Baiju Town, Dafeng District, Yancheng, presents to us a series of intriguing stories concerned with Zhang Shicheng, Shi Naian, Luo Guanzhong, “Water Margin” and Yancheng, meanwhile reveals the fact that the dialect, the geomorphologic features shown in the book, and character shaping and so on are all connected with Yancheng.
Lu Gong Temple
Lu Gong Temple, located in Ruxue Street, Tinghu District, is a memorial hall to commemorate the famous patriotic hero Lu Xiufu, the prime minister of the late Southern Song Dynasty who was a native of Yancheng. In the tenth year of Jianjing period, Ming Dynasty, that was A.D. 1531, Lu Gong Temple was first built on the west of Ruxue Street to honor the national patriotic hero. The temple in the beginning bore three lines, two wing-rooms, a memorial archway and a pavilion: the first line was the Entrance Hall, the second was Yangzhi Hall and the third line was Central Ancestral Temple. Later, damages and repairs had been on and on for years. In 1984, Lu Gong Temple was restored and opened to the public, which is a key provincial cultural preservation unit and a Patriotic Education Base of Jiangsu province. In November 2009, the temple was renovated, expanded and reopened to the public. The whole project occupies a floor space of 6,750m2, among which the temple building area takes up 3,375m2 covering six lines and two wing-rooms, a “Zhong Liu Di Zhu” memorial archway and a screen wall called “Guang Qian Yu Hou”. Besides, the cultural district occupies 2,250m2. The basic display of Lu Gong Temple consists of two parts: Part One “Family” including Preface Hall, Jingzhong Hall and Central Ancestral Temple, which mainly presents Lu Xiufu’s virtues of integrity, intelligence, kindness and filial piety; Part Two “Country” covering Zhonglie Hall and Yangzhi Hall, which, based on modern means of exhibition, displays Lu Xiufu’s diligence, probity and his heroic act of drowning himself in the sea in Yashan.
